Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Broadcast Systems Engineer is a full‐time position within Engineering. The department is seeking a skilled Engineer to perform daily preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and support multiple daily live studio productions including quality control for incoming/outgoing ENG and truck game feeds. Responsible for problem solving of all equipment associated within a 24/7/365 television studio in the NY market.

The selected candidate will be responsible for maintenance of studio equipment, automated production control room systems, camera control systems, robotic cameras, remote ENG equipment, post‐production, video playback and archive solutions, non‐linear edit systems and IP distribution systems; assist in gathering system requirements, planning, designing, and implementing systems within our mission‐critical broadcast and enterprise IT environment of any new technologies at the studio, stadiums and remote facilities.

The role requires that you possess the necessary self‐discipline to take ownership and responsibility for delivering technical solutions considering both the business and technical needs of all employees and customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets our company needs. You will be part of a talented IT / Engineering department that demonstrate superb technical competency, delivering internal customer‐oriented solutions, maintaining critical infrastructure, and ensuring the highest levels of availability and performance. The role will suit individuals who are excited by the opportunity to work with leading edge technologies at a high paced broadcast environment.

We are looking for ''a hands on'' accomplished broadcast systems engineer dedicated to help our business by supporting facility critical infrastructure and IT systems, projects and on new initiatives.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop strong working relationships with department leaders and their teams including Production Operations, Engineering, IT, Creative Services, Sales, Traffic and News and Field Operations groups to manage systems, documentation, develop best practices and implement new technologies and deliver projects on time.
• Working with external Technical Support teams to ensure timely resolution of customer requests and issues
• Provide troubleshooting and support with the ability to perform emergency maintenance on studio, control room, and newsroom equipment
• Evaluate and optimize workflows related to all systems including video workflows – editing infrastructures, virtualized Windows / Linux environments, encode/decode transmission platforms, newsgathering LiveU, NLE, Media Asset Management systems, file‐based systems and other workflow tools
• Evaluate, test, and install upgrades to all platform operating systems, applications, and hardware.
• Ongoing assessment of production workflows, identifying processes that can be streamlined or improved upon with new hardware, software, or automation
• Work with operations teams to ensure SOP's & documentation are written and up to date
• Participate in the testing of new technology
• Evaluate, commission and training others of the new technology or operation procedure
• Develop and maintain system documentation for operational and troubleshooting purposes
• Work that is consistently professional, reliable and detail oriented

Qualifications
• Experience with supporting large scale systems to support business needs
• Experience supporting a major market studio or network News operation
• Proficient in A/V file transcoding, data archiving processes and video compression technologies & standards
• Experience with supporting of a non‐linear edit system such as Avid & the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite
• Demonstrated knowledge of media over managed networks and transcoding – file transferring protocols
• Knowledge of IP/LAN infrastructures and Storage technology, including SAN, NAS, RAID, and Cloud (AWS)
• Knowledge and experience with hardware virtualization, Teradici, citrix and remote sessions
• Knowledge of media workflow tools and production systems such as Vantage, Ross Overdrive, VizRT, and EnCaption. Knowledge of Haivision, LiveU and Evertz / Net Insight distribution systems
• Understanding knowledge of SSL audio, Grass Valley switchers, Production automation, Evertz router, QC monitoring and intercom system
• Strong ability to read and generate system documentation (Visio, ACAD, SOP)
• Positive work ethic, ability to work well in groups to execute projects on time while meeting managers expectations
• Ability to communicate and interact effectively with diverse audiences across different departments, ranging from non‐ technical clients to technical professionals and operations staff
• Must be able to process large amounts of information, analyze this information and make sound decisions, sometimes under intense deadline pressure
• Knowledge of standard engineering processes such as change control and agile development concepts
• Must be keen to learn and develop new skills
• Ability to work on assigned tasks, projects and own initiative. Excellent organization, collaboration, and communication skills
• Knowledge and experience with setup, testing and documentation of proof‐of‐concept systems
• Must possess strong multitasking skills and the ability to prioritize tasks

• Experience in a similar role with an ISP, media company, systems integrator, or other relevant industry
• Willingness to travel and work outside standard hours, including extra day or an early morning with short notice
• Must be able to work flexible hours including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and overnights
• Must have a valid driver's license
• Ability to lift and carry 30+ pounds of gear

Salary range: $90,000 - $115,000 + bonus eligible
