Responsibilities

The Broadcast Engineer at the NBCU Boston Media Center, reporting to the Director of Engineering, is part of

the team responsible for the upkeep of the facility and the systems and processes within it. This role plays a

critical part in ensuring our businesses can create and deliver the stories and content to all of our audiences and

partners across linear and non-linear platforms. This role is primarily focused on the video and audio systems in

the facility which is home to NBC10 Boston, NBC Sports Boston, Telemundo Boston, and New England Cable

News. Systems for which this role is entrusted to maintain includes but not limited to:
• • Evertz Facility Audio and Video routing and distribution
• • Ross production switchers and SSL System-T audio boards
• • RTS Odin Intercom and IFB
• • Sony Cameras and Ross robotic pedestals
• • Chyron and Ross graphics platforms
• • Dalet NRCS/NRPS
• • Facility Building Management Systems (HVAC)

The ideal candidate will also have a strong understanding of current broadcast and production standards and

trends in the areas of video, audio, professional editing, codecs, field cameras, signal transmission and

distribution and more. A partial list of specific strengths and technologies are listed below.
• • SMPTE ST2110 IP Video and Audio
• • DANTE digital audio certification
• • Adobe Creative Cloud
• • ENG and EFP/Digital Cinema
• • Video Encoding for web, live streaming, OTT, contribution, and distribution/transmission
• • Studio and Field Lighting
• • Environmental Health & Safety Programs

Qualifications/Requirements
Primary Requirements:
• Deep understanding of audio and video signal measurement and standards
• Strong understanding of control room production technologies and process
• Ability to assist with or lead projects at the facility
• Must know how to fabricate and repair common cables and connectors (BNC, XLR, RJ45, etc)
• Assist technical operators and directors with their daily system checks
• Monitor the ticketing system to ensure staff issues are handled in a timely and professional manner
• Contact vendors, peers, and/or technical support services to facilitate timely resolutions to issues
• Strong understanding of computer networking
• Perform facility maintenance and provide support for critical building systems
