Job Description
Responsibilities

We're seeking a White House reporter to join NBC News' digital politics team.

You'll work with an established group of reporters and editors covering the White House. On any given day, you could be covering the news of the moment coming out of the administration, writing the day's lead White House story, or working on a fast-turn enterprise piece. You will be covering the White House briefing, building sources to break news, and spotting trends.

The ideal candidate will be adept at covering a beat, building sources and seamlessly working under tight deadlines in a competitive news environment to report and file within minutes of a breaking story.

You do not have to have experience covering the White House, but you should have a track record of covering a competitive political beat, like elections, Congress, a statehouse or governor.

You'll not only want to be first when news breaks. You'll also be eager to pursue follow-ups and additional angles - including chasing down exclusive information - and be interested in pitching original and enterprise stories. Experience contributing to live coverage of news events, including live blogging, is a plus.

This role will involve collaboration across many teams at NBC News and may require travel.

This position is represented by the News Guild CWA.

Responsibilities:
• Actively monitor sources of White House breaking news and be prepared to jump on news seconds after it happens
• Write clean, fast and accurate copy and headlines
• Work in close collaboration with editors, as well as other reporters as warranted
• Generate original story ideas and develop fresh angles for reported pieces on the big stories of the day
• Cultivate sources and contacts on stories and areas of expertise
• Share information with broader NBC News network in a timely fashion

Qualifications
• Must be willing to adhere to all Company COVID-19 workplace safety policies and protocols.
• In select work settings or where jurisdictionally mandated, must submit an attestation disclosing your COVID-19 vaccination status and be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or adhere to enhanced protocols.
• 4 or more years reporting experience in national or state politics
• Strong journalistic writing skills, research skills and editorial judgment
• Broad knowledge of and interest in US politics
• Knowledge of AP style
• Must be willing to work in Washington DC
• Excellent communicator
• Team player
• Detail oriented
• Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments in a rapidly moving newscycle
• Ability to follow direction and work independently when necessary
• Superior organizational skills
