Responsibilities

The NBC News Business and Technology Unit is looking for an experienced technology investigative reporter to join its dynamic team of journalists covering technology on the cutting edge, as well as some of the world's largest and most powerful companies. Our ideal candidate should be driven by a constant stream of ideas and a hunger to break stories, and possess strong writing and analytical skills. This candidate should thrive under intense deadline pressure and have a proven track record of developing innovative ways to report on and gather information and data, including a deep bench of already established sources. This person must be a team player who is comfortable collaborating and reporting across platforms, including all NBC News digital, audio, and television brands. Knowledge and respect for field reporting and television production is important.

The team that this position is a part of is primarily located in San Francisco, but we are open to other locations.

Job Duties:
• Respond quickly to breaking stories to build out and uncover new angles and information
• Use data to inform and evolve newsgathering and storytelling
• Perform investigative research, including making FOIA requests
• Willing to travel at very short notice
• Collaborate with NBC News digital and television units on news gathering efforts
• Work with journalists across NBC News to drive more content
• Discover, locate and interview newsmakers, eyewitnesses and other notable and interesting news subjects
• Participate in special projects, pitch fresh ideas, and assist editors, as needed

Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
• Must have at least eight years experience as a reporter,

writer, producer and/or editor at a news organization, or a

comparable body of freelance work
• Must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• Must have a strong news background, with extensive

staff newsroom experience
• Must be able to independently conceive of story ideas

and turn them into well-structured pieces ready to be

edited.
• Must have a strong comfort level working with standards

and legal departments on ensuring articles meet the

highest standards requirements.
