Job Description
Responsibilities
NBC News Digital is not just growing, it is transforming.

Innovation has always been one of the pillars lifting NBC into the ranks of elite journalism. From politics to pop culture, disinformation to data graphics, investigative to lifestyle, we have applied that spirit of constant renewal, reinvention and creativity to our news coverage. As we look to the future of journalism, NBC News Digital continues its streak in ambitiously growing and building its streaming and digital properties -- this time with a significant investment of nearly 200 jobs. We are looking for brilliant, enthusiastic, first-rate journalists who want to join us for the ride and are prepared to innovate and make an impact on the future of storytelling.

The NBC News digital politics team is seeking an ambitious reporter to cover the US Supreme Court.

This is a high-profile position and will require that you own every step of the reporting: tracking potential SCOTUS lawsuits in the lower courts, listening to arguments and analyzing them, pre-writing and deadline writing pristine copy on the court's major cases for a massive audience, and sourcing up and breaking major news along the way.

You have previously covered the Supreme Court and cases from start to finish and have a track record of exclusive reporting and building sources within and around the courts and legal system.

Ideally, you have the ability to pinpoint significant or scene-setting detail in your copy while capturing the larger themes that transcend any one case. You have strong knowledge of legal procedures and the ability to quickly read documents and distill the essentials, often on an extremely tight deadline. You possess a competitive spirit, should hate being beat by the competition, and should drive to publish scoops and major exclusives. You're a clear writer, with a knack for translating complex legal matters to a broad audience.

This job is based in Washington and will involve collaboration across many teams at NBC News.

This position is represented by the NewsGuild-CWA.
