Job Description
Responsibilities
NBC News Digital is looking for an experienced editor to lead its breaking news coverage and daily publishing on social media. The editor will lead day-to-day content distribution on NBC News' Facebook and Twitter accounts and run point on coverage across both NBC News and MSNBC social accounts when news breaks.
The ideal candidate will have the skillset of a front line news editor and know what makes a story resonate on social. They will understand the nuances of different social platforms and be able to write and edit outstanding social copy accordingly. Experience covering breaking news and developing stories, such as election nights and natural disasters, is essential.
This position is best suited for a news junkie who is comfortable thinking on their feet and pivoting when news breaks and plans change. The editor must be comfortable giving editorial direction and making important decisions under pressure. Reporting to the senior manager of live social publishing, this editor will play a key role in developing our social distribution strategies and will need to have a talent for digging into both real-time analytics and historical data to understand trends and how audiences engage with social content.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and experience navigating the dynamics of a large newsroom in a hybrid WFH setting. The position is full-time and based in New York and is represented by the NewsGuild.

Responsibilities include
• Lead day-to-day publishing on NBC News' Facebook and Twitter accounts, including writing, editing and approving posts, live streaming news events, and video clipping key moments
• Lead breaking news coverage for NBC News and MSNBC social accounts
• Along with the senior manager of live publishing, help develop and execute creative distribution strategies across multiple platforms
• Monitor real-time analytics and track audience behavior to help inform promotion and optimization opportunities
• Lead a small team of social editors who are dedicated to keeping our Facebook and Twitter audiences up to date
• Liaise with senior social managers and partners around the newsroom to coordinate event coverage and story distribution

Qualifications/Requirements
• Five or more years working in a digital newsroom and experience covering breaking news on social media
• Experience writing and editing for Facebook and Twitter and knowing when and how the approach on a story may differ according to platform
• Ability to give editorial direction in fast-moving news situations
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
• A deep knowledge about social media and the latest

trends in digital media
• Awareness of NBC News and MSNBC personalities and

brands
