Responsibilities

The NBC News Digital group is seeking a Principal Product Designer for our tools team as we build out a set of next generation CMS products. You have deep experience building content publishing tools ideally in newsrooms. You know how to lead Product design from research to concept to prototyping to execution. Your UX and interaction design skills are razor sharp and you are grounded in human centric design thinking. You thrive on planning out the big picture with product owners and collaborators but you also are meticulous and methodical in feature execution. 

 What you will do:
• Work closely with the Product Manager to shape the goals, strategy and roadmap for our tools products that cut across curation, article creation, video management and elections data among others
• Collaborate with research, product and editorial on project discovery, concept exploration and user testing
• Move feature designs through initial wireframe explorations to interactive prototypes to delivery of detailed final renderings with documentation for development
• Participate in thorough critique sessions with product and design leads and peers
• Present to stakeholders and engage in feedback sessions
• Collaborate closely with the engineering teams, communicating with clarity, understanding and bringing a flexibility within their agile process

Qualifications/Requirements What you bring:
• A great aesthetic sensibility
• Empathy and a solid understanding of design thinking and design sprint process
• Meticulous attention to detail while not losing sight of the larger mission
• A passion for crafting innovative, usable and delightful products
• Proficiency with managing and evolving a design system
• Expertise in the content publishing space ideally in a newsroom environment

Qualifications:
• A portfolio of your work
• 6+ years experience in Product design, at least 2 in content publishing
• BA/BFA with a design focus
• Fluency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma and Protopie
• Solid understanding of HTML, CSS and Javascript
• Successful experiences shipping products
• Willing to work in New York
• Legally able to work in the US
