Responsibilities
The NBC News digital politics team is seeking an ambitious reporter to cover Congress - its leadership, its politics and policies, its renegade members, its investigations, and much more.

This reporter should have experience building sources on Capitol Hill, and experience breaking news and producing stand-out journalism in a competitive environment. This job includes getting beyond the weeds of policy and breaking past the minutiae of congressional process to deliver stories that help readers understand how the sausage gets made and what it means for them. The ideal candidate writes clearly and with nuance to make sense of what's happening in Congress for our audience. Candidates should possess a competitive spirit, should hate being beat, and have several years of experience covering Congress.

This job is based in Washington, and will involve collaboration across many teams at NBC News. Women and diverse candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications/Requirements
• Break news and produce high-impact, exclusive reporting on Capitol Hill
• At least ten years of professional journalism experience, including at least four years covering Congress
• Strong journalistic writing skills, research skills and editorial judgment
• Deep knowledge of congressional legislative processes, leadership in the House and Senate as well as minority dynamics
• An ability to build and cultivate sources on Capitol Hill among both the minority and majority in both chambers, including staff and lawmakers
• A demonstrated track record of producing original, exclusive journalism on the congressional beat
