We're seeking a breaking news reporter to join NBC News' digital politics team.

In this position, you'll work the evening shift on an established team of reporters and editors covering a wide range of national political news. On any given day, you may be writing about the White House, a congressional hearing, a newsmaker TV appearance, a court filing or a protest.

The ideal candidate will be adept at filing multiple stories per day, seamlessly working under tight deadlines in a competitive news environment to report and file within minutes of a breaking story. Once an initial story is published, you'll be prepared to rapidly update the story while recognizing that information still needs to be thoroughly vetted. Ideally, you are also eager to pitch original and enterprise stories and willing to pursue follow-ups and additional angles to the news of the day.

This role will involve collaboration across many teams at NBC News, and the hours are 3-11 p.m. ET.

Job responsibilities include:
• Actively monitor sources of breaking news (Dataminr, Twitter, wires, internal communications) and be prepared to jump on news seconds after it happens
• Write clean, fast and accurate copy and headlines
• Work in close collaboration with editors, as well as other reporters as warranted
• Generate original story ideas and develop fresh angles for reported pieces on the big stories of the day
• Cultivate sources and contacts on stories and areas of expertise
• Share information with broader NBC News network in a timely fashion

Qualifications/Requirements
• 4 or more years breaking news reporting experience
• Strong journalistic writing skills, research skills and editorial judgment
• Broad knowledge of and interest in US politics
• Knowledge of AP style
