Position Summary:

Reporting to the Head of Creative Operations, along with the Department Manager the Head of Department is responsible for day-to-day operations and long-term strategic management of the Compositing department.

Primary Responsibilities:

Managing the team:
• Manage the training and integration of new artists into the existing team in accordance with the global needs of the business
• Recruiting and casting of the Leads
• Cast and assign appropriate teams to the various projects, balancing the financial, technical and creative considerations of the task
• Nurture creative vision and technical ability, while ensuring balanced personal and professional development
• Assess performance of the team through appraisals (formal as well as informal), and manage career growth and promotions within the wider considerations of the company

Strategy and technical development:
• Have a compelling strategy and vision for the future of the department
• Keep up to date with industry developments and tools
• Ensure the department remains relevant in an ever changing global industry
• Propose and oversee the development of new tools, workflows or techniques as required for successful and efficient delivery of shows
• Monitor workflow and techniques used in the team
• Collaborate with other department HODs to design workflows between their teams
• Report on workflows to the Head of Creative Operations

Show planning, maintenance and delivery:
• Work with the lead artists, supervisors and show production to bid or plan shots, and ensure the project methodologies, quality and schedule expectations are consistent and achievable
• Work with show teams to plan for future challenges and problem solve current issues
• Assist other artists, departments and supervisors solve issues as they arise during production, delegating work where necessary
• Create good communication channels with other departments, show production and senior management to ensure complex information is disseminated appropriately
• Ensure that work is delivered to MPC's global standards, on time and on budget

Gérer l'équipe :
• Gérer la formation et l'intégration des nouveaux artistes dans l'équipe existante en fonction des besoins globaux de l'entreprise.
• Recrutement et casting des Leads
• Casting et affectation des équipes appropriées aux différents projets, en équilibrant les considérations financières, techniques et créatives de la tâche.
• Encourager la vision créative et les capacités techniques, tout en assurant un développement personnel et professionnel équilibré.
• Évaluer les performances de l'équipe par le biais d'évaluations (formelles et informelles), et gérer l'évolution de carrière et les promotions dans le cadre plus large de l'entreprise.

Stratégie et développement technique :
• Avoir une stratégie et une vision convaincantes pour l'avenir du département.
• Se tenir au courant des développements et des outils du secteur
• Veiller à ce que le département reste pertinent dans un secteur mondial en constante évolution.
• Proposer et superviser le développement de nouveaux outils, flux de travail ou techniques, selon les besoins, pour assurer la réussite et l'efficacité des spectacles.
• Contrôler le flux de travail et les techniques utilisées dans l'équipe
• Collaborer avec les chefs de service des autres départements pour concevoir des flux de travail entre leurs équipes.
• Rendre compte des flux de travail au chef des opérations créatives.

Planification, entretien et livraison des projets :
• Travailler avec les artistes principaux, les superviseurs et la production du spectacle pour proposer ou planifier des prises de vue, et s'assurer que les méthodologies de projet, la qualité et les attentes en matière de calendrier sont cohérentes et réalisables.
• Travailler avec les équipes du spectacle pour planifier les défis futurs et résoudre les problèmes actuels.
• Aider les autres artistes, les départements et les superviseurs à résoudre les problèmes qui se présentent pendant la production, en déléguant le travail si nécessaire.
• Créer de bons canaux de communication avec les autres départements, la production du spectacle et la haute direction pour s'assurer que les informations complexes sont diffusées de manière appropriée.
• Veiller à ce que le travail soit livré conformément aux standards de qualité de MPC, dans les délais et le budget impartis.

Qualifications

Skills and Experience

Technical Knowledge/Skills:
• A strong technical background is essential
• Solid knowledge of VFX shot production
• Strong technical understanding of 2D pipelines and the ability to develop efficient workflows and identify additional tools required
• Up-to-date knowledge of VFX tools and emerging technologies

Experience:

6+ years of proven leadership and management experience in a leading VFX company or associated industry
