We are looking for entry level VFX artists to join Sydney’s first Jedi Academy in early 2021. The successful candidates will reflect the innovative spirit, creative talent, collaborative mindset and passion for great filmmaking that define ILM.

ILM’s layout department covers a wide range of work from camera, actor, and object matchmove, working with state of the art facial capture systems, lensing for CG shots or sequences, and setting up scenes for subsequent departments to work in. The artists use both proprietary ILM tools and mainstream software to achieve this.

What you’ll learn
• Establishing shot composition, timing, and continuity
• Camera tracking, object and body matchmove techniques
• Motion-capture and face-cap workflows
• Supporting storytelling through creative layout and camera authoring
• Understanding of cinematography and lenses
• ILM's proprietary tools and pipeline

What we’re looking for
• VFX graduates or junior artists with a genuine passion for a career in layout and cameras
• A basic understanding of digital cameras and layout, and passion for technology
• Great collaborators, curious learners with a blend of creative and technical skills
• You have a Bachelor's Degree in VFX, digital media or animation, and/or a reel demonstrating evidence of your work in layout, and a general understanding of CG.

Jedi Academy Layout program details

The Jedi Academy layout program will start in February 2021 . We are offering 12 month opportunities consisting of an intensive and full-time initial training period (6-12 weeks depending on discipline and applicant level) followed by on the job development. This is a paid position.

Applicants must reside in NSW and provide proof of long-term eligibility to work in Australia. We are not able to provide assistance for relocation, housing, transportation, or work authorisation for the Jedi Academy.
