Job Description

Mid-Senior Level 2D Animators to work on a show for age groups 16+

At Lighthouse Studios, our six core values, pride, passion, persistence, playfulness, poise and people-focus, underpin everything we do and provide guidance for us as we grow and learn.

We are now on the hunt for mid-senior level animators who will join us in our quest to create the best possible animated content for our partners. The artists will be needed from March 2023.

PLEASE NOTE: This role is based in our studio in Kilkenny, Ireland, and currently, there is no option to work freelance. For this reason, at the moment, we are only hiring those with current, legal permission to live and work in the EU.

The role relates to a show that has been classified 16+ and while the subject matter of the show is presented in a fantasy or comic context, the production may contain contextually justified strong language, references to sex, drugs, horror, threat, and/or violence of a non-gratuitous nature, which some applicants may find objectionable. Lighthouse will always seek to reasonably accommodate those applicants with conscientious or other objections, however given the nature of both the role and subject matter, this may not always be possible. Applicant discretion is therefore advised.

About the role

Your role as an animator is to create the final approved Rigged Toon Boom Harmony according to a weekly quota of 300 frames per week as agreed with the animation director and animation supervisor and communicated by your immediate supervisor. The role may also include some mentoring of junior artists.

We really value can-do attitudes here at Lighthouse. If you’re someone who thinks outside the box and looks for solutions, not problems, then you’ll fit right in!

What you'll be doing

  • Studying and understanding the animation style of the production, as well as the animation supervisor’s brief on the objectives of each scene.
  • Animating, to an agreed and approved quality including multiple passes, an assigned number of frames as per agreed quota per week (may vary according to complexity of scene).
  • Achieving creative standards and production deadlines as communicated to you by your immediate supervisor.
  • Communicating any problems to your immediate supervisor, following up/escalating until they are resolved.
  • Communicating progress of work to your immediate supervisor.
  • Supporting junior crew members occasionally, as per supervisor's request
  • Following exact procedures set by Lighthouse Studios (i.e. file-naming and file-storage) according to the production's guidelines.
  • Delivering correctly named scene files with tidy nodes, timelines and layers to the compositing/FX/retake department, following established protocols.
  • Planning and assessing your weekly individual workload with production and supervisor as required.
  • Studying and following reference material as required.

The above is not exhaustive and from time to time you may be asked to carry out other tasks.

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years of experience as an animator.
  • Experience working with Toon Boom
  • Strong understanding of traditional 2D principles.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise work.
  • Attention to detail and ability to find solutions.
  • Experience with Shotgrid is considered a plus.

What we'll offer you

When you join Lighthouse Studios, you will be joining a diverse and multicultural crew in the beautiful neo-Gothic building of Kieran’s College, based in the heart of medieval Kilkenny. And when we say multicultural, we mean it – our crew is currently represented by over 25 different nationalities.

The studio is a hub of talent and is constantly buzzing with creativity. Working here will not only give you the opportunity to work on productions for content giants such as Amazon, Apple TV+, Netflix and Warner Bros., but also to learn from some of the most talented individuals in the industry, your fellow crew members.

In addition to learning from your colleagues, you also have the opportunity to partake in our in-house learning and development programme, so you can be sure that your time at Lighthouse will be beneficial for you - not only now but for years to come. Of course, we also have many other benefits such as a pension plan, employee assistance programme, health benefits, regular crew parties and much more!

If that sounds like the kind of place you’d like to work then what are you waiting for? Apply now!
