Evening Assignment Editor & Digital Content Producer

KXAN News is now accepting résumés for an evening Assignment Editor and digital content producer to join our collaborative team. The Assignment Editor assigns daily stories according to personnel available and directs the influx of information coming into the newsroom to ensure the in-depth, investigative quality of content on KXAN's newscasts and digital platforms.

This position is ideal for a highly-motivated person who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has a natural curiosity, has excellent communications skills, and enjoys playing a pivotal role in our newsroom. Must excel at reacting quickly to news developments, identifying potential stories, researching information and following-up
on ongoing stories. Solid news judgment, highly-tuned organization skills and ability to communicate with public information officials and the public -- while also building sources -- are imperative. Multi-tasking and prioritizing a list of requests under deadline are also essential.

Duties include:
• A ssisting staff with newsgathering and research
• Assigning our staff and resources for stories
• Using social media to gather information and disseminate it to the newsroom.
• Answering phones and providing helpful customer service to callers
• Managing emails
• Assisting with special event and other advance planning
• Writing/publishing digital stories
• C ontinuously monitoring and updating digital content
• U sing social media to gather and publish information

Previous newsroom experience is required . Assignment desk and/or digital reporting/producing experience preferred. Strong writing skills and knowledge of AP style are essential. A Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communication or related field is preferred.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The Assignment Editor must be able to stand, sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work near others, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Must be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required.
