Job Summary/Description:
Are you a meteorologist looking for a rare weather/news job in the Midwest? KWCH/KSCW is looking for a content creator who loves both news and weather! The ideal candidate will inform morning viewers on breaking weather and news while being a part of the largest morning show team in Kansas.
The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:
- Lead weather/news reporter for the morning show; ability to do active news or weather live shots with multiple hits and various story angles
- Knowledge of severe weather and nuisance weather extremely important
- Ability to produce and present weathercasts in-studio and in the field
- Can constructively work with a photographer to coordinate active live shots
- Knowledge of WSI products and 3D graphics a plus
- Excellent communication skills - for the viewers and within the news team
- Ability to brainstorm and execute a coverage plan (back to school, special events, etc.)
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Gather and deliver news and weather in the most accurate, appealing, urgent and creative way
- Skilled live reporting is a must as this position requires multiple live hits throughout the morning
- Excellent knowledge of severe and nuisance weather
- Demonstrate sound news judgment and the ability to tell stories in a clear, informative manner
- Extensive knowledge of social media and how to use it to engage viewers
- Enterprise news and weather stories under tight deadlines, develop and maintain sources
- Leadership behind-the-scenes, with a history of creating a positive work environment together with your entire team
- Attendance at editorial meetings, participation in story selection process and contribute story ideas
