Job Summary/Description:

The Assignment Editor assists with the daily flow of news to the newsroom for appropriate coverage both on-air and on the station's digital platforms and gathers meaningful news information from various sources. The Assignment Editor also generates story coverage ideas, discerns credible news tips, schedules news crews, broadband equipment and takes in live feeds. The Assignment Editor creates content that is aligned with and enhances the station brand. The ideal candidate for this role has solid news judgment, a sound grasp of journalism and a sense of urgency for breaking news. This is a high-pressure, deadline-focused position, which requires a self-starter, one who is flexible and has the ability to multitask.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Answering phones, discerning news tips, gathering information and dispensing that information to the newsroom.
* Monitors news sources and utilizes social media to ensure news is being appropriately covered
* Research stories using various search engines, sources and archive content.
* Interacts with internal and external peers and/or managers to exchange information related to assigned tasks.
* Taking in live feeds and coordinating interviews.
* Participates in projects and special assignments as requested by management.

Qualifications/Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism or related field preferred, or equivalent training and/or experience.
* At least one year experience working in a local newsroom. Strong editorial skills and working knowledge of newsroom systems, like ENPS, preferred.
* Various shift work will be required; holiday work required.
