KPTV is a fox-affiliated television station licensed to Portland, Oregon. Owned by Atlanta-based Gray Television, it is part of a duopoly with Vancouver, Washington-licensed MyNetworkTV affiliate KPDX.

Job Summary/Description:

This position requires a full knowledge of station operations and its technical layout, with a strong emphasis on engineering as it relates to modern broadcast TV businesses. Candidates must possess good interpersonal communications skills, both oral and written, and be fully computer literate. Daily responsibilities include troubleshooting, maintaining, and installing broadcast and IT equipment, project management, and surefooted support of production operators in the event of on-air equipment malfunction.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
• Maintenance of the technical facility including studio support, post editing systems, field production support and transmission of live/taped events & programs
• Work closely with the station's staff and corporate leadership to implement new technologies for the business as a whole
• Lead the design and integration process of new or replacement systems
• Help maintain documentation
• Lead and mentor junior engineers and production personnel
• Harbor a strong desire to take ownership of KPTV production and studio systems

Qualifications:
• Must have a background with previous work experience in TV Broadcast Engineering
• Practical knowledge of broadcast signal flow with the ability to quickly identify key points of failure and bypass faults with minimal system down time
• An understanding of modern automated control room environments
• Demonstrable experience with video routing and multiveiwer systems, video servers, character generators, and video terminal equipment
• Work comfortably using the latest operating systems software, including networking, server and desktop operating systems
• Able to work alone at times
• Ability to work under inclement weather conditions
• Technical skills with the ability to diagnose and repair common broadcast equipment
• Familiarity with cable fabrication techniques, including XLR, BNC, RJ45 and similar ethernet connectors
• Able to safely handle equipment and tools weighing 50 pounds
• Availability to occasionally work outside of normal daytime hours
• Must have a clean driving record and valid driver's license
• Meet Gray corporate's pre-employment requirements, which includes among other things, passing the background check, verifying full COVID-19 vaccination status, etc
