About KOTA/KEVN:

KOTA and KEVN are the ABC and FOX affiliates in Rapid City at the base of the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. KOTA and KEVN and the market leaders for local news, sports and weather and recently moved in to a new, state of the art facility. KOTA and KEVN feature separate brands. Both stations cover the Black Hills area of South Dakota as well as parts of eastern Wyoming. Our teams produce six daily newscasts and six weekend newscasts.

KOTA & KEVN are located in Rapid City, SD television DMA Market 173, a community of approximately 100,000 television HH.

Job Summary/Description:

KOTA Territory/Black Hills FOX is looking for its next News Director. This is a key management position that reports directly to the General Manager.

The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:
- Manage the strategy and big-picture plan for the newsroom.
- Focus on long-range planning while managing the day-to-day stuff.
- Maintain and grow station ratings.
- Set goals, expectations and policies for all newsrooms so we have a consistent message across the state. (Ex: election coverage, weather coverage)
- Work hand-in-hand with the Digital Director on how we are serving our viewers across all platforms.
- Manage budgets and purchases, while working with the GM.
- Recruiting new talent.
- Liaison between the newsroom and all other departments.
- Represent our network at functions like legislative committee hearings, cameras in courtrooms project, etc.
- Manage a staff of 28 employee's.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Journalism or related field. Qualified applicant will have experience in running a newsroom and a sound understanding of news department operations, including knowledge of journalism ethics, slander and libel laws. Ability to motivate news personnel, organize information in a detailed manner and excellent skills in dealing with the public and co-workers.
