Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

The ideal candidate will thrive on the urgency of digital and will seamlessly blend expert local sports knowledge with strong digital skills, including writing, posting, and live video streams. He or she will also need to be able to shoot and edit video quickly to get it on our digital platforms as quickly as possible.

At KOIN 6, our lifeblood is local. We need someone just as excited about high school sports as they are about the NBA, who knows great sports stories are in our forests, mountains and rivers as much as they are on the pitch at Providence Park.

The content produced will be different every day, depending on what format is best for a given subject – anything from slideshows and web stories to digital-only packages, and on to raw highlights.

Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Organizational skills with a passion for improvement is necessary. Candidates should include examples of unique programming he/she has produced.

The ideal candidate will share best practices and mentor others to increase the amount of digital content produced at the station.

Education/Experience:

This is not an entry-level position. Required experience includes journalism degree and 2+ years experience in a newsroom. Candidates should have a track record of solid news judgement and ability to create compelling programming with strong visual elements.

Work Environment/Mental/Physical Requirements: Position requires the operation of camera, camera equipment, computer and editing machine, and transport of equipment weighing up to 60 lbs. High stress environment with deadline pressures and the demands of breaking news, which can happen at any time. Position will require day-to-day multi-tasking, as well as managing multiple projects simultaneously with frequent change in direction and priority. Travel will be required on a regular basis. Work may be performed in extreme outdoor temperatures. A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required. Must be willing and able to work any and all shifts as necessary, including overnights/early morning, days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Must be able to sit, conduct phone conversations, use email, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work near others, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
