Job Description
KECI is a trusted brand providing Montana viewers with local news, weather, sports, and social media content. We help grow the most talented people in television. You have the opportunity to work with a team filled with spirit, passion, and imagination. We are currently seeking an experienced, hands-on full-time Assistant News Director. We are looking for someone with strong leadership skills, investigative skills, excellent coaching skills, a passion for winning the big story and an overall winning attitude. The candidate must be able to work with a group of journalists on our day-to-day coverage for both on air and online. Expect a hands-on working environment, where you work with our producers to showcase great content and provide consistent and quality feedback.

Responsibilities Include:
• Assist in managing the station's news operations, establishing goals and directing the staff that produces 20+ hours of local news weekly
• Work closely with News Director to establish news content, philosophy, and direction
• Review daily newscasts to ensure quality control and brand compliancy, and subsequently provide feedback to all news staff
• Assist the News Director with recruiting and hiring for news personnel
• Work closely with our investigative and advocacy brands to grow and strengthen a distinct piece of our newsroom strategy
• Work closely with News Director on special projects, including debates, town halls, and roundtable discussions
• Provide coaching to on-air talent to enhance news product
• Help increase the digital footprint of our content center

Requirements and Qualifications:
• Must have a working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel, and privacy laws
• Must have a strong understanding of emerging media and experience building content across all platforms
• The ability to coach and motivate producers and reporters
• Journalism degree and a minimum of five years experience in news management with noted leadership skills is required
• Excellent news judgment
• Strong leadership and writing skills
• Must have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple hours of daily newscasts
