About KCRG:

KCRG-TV9 is the ABC affiliate based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with a bureau in Dubuque covering all of Eastern Iowa. We are dedicated to being a part of our community and sharing the stories of the people of Eastern Iowa. We produce 6 hours of news everyday, as well as support a robust website and the largest social media audience in the market.

Job Summary/Description:

KCRG-TV9 is seeking a dynamic journalist to lead our top-rated newsroom as the assignment manager. This leadership position plays a key role in shaping day-to-day news coverage and operations as well as guiding staff in developing journalism skills. A successful applicant will have a proven track record of strong news judgment, problem-solving skills, developing sources and managing news staff under deadline pressure.

Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following:
• Coordinate coverage of day-to-day news events
• Manage reporter and photographer schedules and story assignments
• Develop sources and contacts to track and develop news story ideas
• Work with News Director and managers to execute newsroom strategy
• Assist reporters and producers in gathering information and contacts
• Assist Producers with writing, as needed
• Write and publish news content for digital platforms, as needed
• Coordinate with partner news outlets to gather additional content and video

Qualifications/Requirements:
• Minimum of 5 years professional newsroom experience, leadership experience preferred.
• Strong news judgment with a focus on viewer benefit and interest.
• Extremely well-organized
• Ability to multi-task
• Ability to work under deadline pressure
• Excellent communication skills
• Competitive with a sense of urgency to gather information
• Well-versed in current affairs and workings of government
• Knowledge of newsroom content and operating systems
• Knowledge of Iowa state and local government and agencies a plus
• Must maintain clean driving record
