Job Description
Here's your chance to interview every president before they over the White House! KCCI-TV, Iowa's News Leaders, is searching for a Chief Political Reporter to cover local, state and national politics. Candidates must be able to look at legal policies and the decisions of politicians and translate how they will affect people's lives. We are looking for a reporter who will bring clarity to the debates, hot-button issues, and trends that are transforming our community. This journalist should be able to build sources to break stories and have strong interviewing skills that hold the powerful accountable.

Duties
• Work with News Director and news management to develop strategy for political coverage
• Identify and collect information on significant, under-reported, and newsworthy state and local political events
• Assemble and verify facts through conducting interviews as well as examining documents and public records
• Pitch story ideas, follow hot topics, write news content relevant to our coverage priorities and develop these as needed
• Build up a network of contacts and sources within the beat
• Works with or without a photographer to gather and edit compelling video and sound, and develop people-centered stories
• Must be able to work on general assignment stories as needed
• Will contribute pictures, video and text updates to mobile platforms consistently throughout the day
• Can juggle multiple stories and projects at once, demonstrates exceptional time-management skills by meeting deadlines under pressure

Job Requirements
• Experience in news reporting preferred
• Solid news judgment and excellent journalism ethics
• Demonstrated ability to enterprise and uncover
• Ability to operate mobile transmission devices and use latest technology
• Ability to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends
• Can work in all weather conditions and carry up to 50 pounds
• Has a valid driver's license, can drive large vehicles over long distances, and a clear driving record

Education
• College degree in broadcast journalism or related field preferred
• Equivalent military training from Defense Information School (DINFOS) and associated experience will be considered
