Job Summary/Description:

KBTX is seeking an experienced newsroom manager to serve as the station's next Assistant News Director. This is a growth-focused position that takes an active role in the daily management of the KBTX newsroom, including a heavy role in the daily editorial process.

The Assistant News Director supervises and coordinates KBTX's daily programming with guidance from the News Director and in concert with the Director of Digital Content. The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter with a passion for helping to develop great journalism from great journalists. Each day, you'll oversee KBTX's multiplatform programming with a commitment to the station's core values, including trust, quality, and accuracy; providing editorial direction, leadership, support and encouragement to staff in the generation of content and production of a market-leading news product. You will also help develop and oversee the newsroom's strategic plan and growth strategies.

As a legacy market-leading station, KBTX has a deep commitment to community and a strong history of fostering the best in our team members through close, personal relationships. As assistant news director, you'll serve as a direct conduit and among the strongest sustaining forces behind this vision through daily touchpoints with the KBTX newsroom team.

Qualifications/Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have...
• At least four years of experience in local newsrooms with a consistent pattern of growth
• Proven and effective leadership skills; including a desire to encourage open discussions, empower others, foster diversity, and address conflict in a way that emphasizes growth
• Strong editorial skills and excellent news judgment, including the ability to oversee both daily news and breaking content with an emphasis on their impact to the viewer
• A deep understanding of best practices for local journalism across platforms-the ability to innovate on both broadcast and digital will earn you this role
• A passion for leading the way in producing and storytelling by taking creative risks, combined with an unwavering commitment to journalistic ethics and standards
• Ability to mentor journalists from a variety of backgrounds and experience levels with a focus on creating strong, passionate storytellers.
• A community-minded spirit and vision to maintain and expand the stations' legacy of community outreach
• Success in growing an organization's social and digital footprint, especially within key demographics
- Ability to adjust and excel while working a flexible schedule
- Drug screen and MVR check required.
• Candidates should also exhibit a good work ethic, strong people skills, and must maintain a professional attitude at all times. This position requires availability to work all shifts and may require holiday work.
