Department: Baseball Operations – Player Development
Reports to: Manager, Baseball Technology
Classification: Full-Time/Exempt

The Houston Astros are seeking a Minor League Technology Assistant. The Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Baseball Technology Manager with overseeing game video and data collection at our minor league affiliates and complex-based camps and leagues in Florida and the Dominican Republic. Additionally, the Assistant will support with the day-to-day administrative aspects of the Player Development department. This position will be based in West Palm Beach, FL and will work closely with the Manager of Baseball Technology, Director of Player Development, Director of Minor League Operations, as well as various coaches. This role requires working outside of traditional business hours, including weekends and some holidays.
Responsibilities include:
Team Management
Supports in managing the Baseball Technology team, which consists of both Affiliate and Complex Technology Apprentices, as well as Hawkeye Systems Operators. Specific examples include, but are not limited to:
• Over the offseason, assisting in the hiring process for affiliate apprentices.
• During Spring Training, instructing the staff on the various systems and technologies the Astros employ.
• Assisting in supporting the Baseball Technology team throughout the season, including answering questions and troubleshooting issues remotely.
Video/Data Uploads and Quality Control
Assists in daily uploads and processing of video and data across the minor leagues. Checks both data and video for all games the night prior to ensure top quality. Addresses any issues across various systems to either fix or prevent any issues. Specific examples include, but are not limited to:
• Import video each morning from all Minor League games from the night prior, and confirm that all camera angles were properly framed and zoomed.
• Process and upload data from all Minor League affiliate home games from the night prior.
• Working with the Baseball Technology team to address any unsuitable camera angles.
• Inspecting game data for any abnormalities that may stem from improper calibration of the system.
Technology Maintenance
Works alongside the Baseball Technology Manager in any maintenance that may be required to ensure highest quality video and data. Specific examples include, but are not limited to:
• Replacing hardware on equipment, such as cameras or radars.
• Configuring various networked systems, such as Hawkeye or camera systems.
• Operating or utilizing elevation equipment to reach a camera or radar system that needs adjusted or replaced.
• Working with an on-site contractor to address an issue at an affiliate.
Budget / Inventory
Annually collaborates with the Manager of Baseball Technology in creating a budget proposal for the following season. Keeping track of invoices and orders during the current season to ensure adherence to the current budget. Assisting in the inventory of baseball tech. Specific examples include, but are not limited to:
• Assisting in creating and submitting the budget proposal for the following season.
• Tracking the distribution and returns of any tech that have been assigned to various employees throughout the season and offseason, such as iPads, sensors and tracking technology.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Strong baseball knowledge.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• High level of attention to detail.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Professional and punctual.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Systems networking background is a plus.
• Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
Work Environment
Position will work in an office and stadium environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud within the stadium environment.
