Job Description
Hearst Television is looking for a journalist with strong editorial instincts to lead a new initiative for our company. The Alert Desk Manager will lead a team of curators who use various types of technology to identify hyper-local news stories and deliver that coverage to our audience. Qualified candidates should have a background in local news, excellent organizational skills and experience using analytics to drive strategy. The position is a growth opportunity for Hearst TV and will be based in Cincinnati, Ohio, though other Hearst TV markets would also be considered.

Job Responsibilities:
• Monitor multiple sources, using both existing and new technologies, to mine for local stories of interest and breaking news
• Ability to write short news stories, updates and messaging that will entice the audience to open alerts of all forms
• Ability to coach a team of curators on best practices for writing news stories and engaging with the audience
• Other duties as required

Experience Requirements:
• Familiar with local newsgathering technology and terminology
• Previous digital writing/editing experience preferred
• Experience with web-based CMS and/or other web-based UIs
• Understanding of analytics and how to use implement learnings for improved results

Qualifications Requirements:
• Strong news and editorial judgment
• Must be polite and professional when dealing with the public
• Must be organized and able to multi-task
• Excellent communication skills
• Previous digital writing/editing experience preferred
• Ability to remain calm and level-headed during breaking news situations
• Willing to work a variety of shifts including weekends and nights

Education:
• College Degree in Journalism or relevant experience in a related field
• Military experience is a plus
