Job Description
Veranda is looking for a smart, driven deputy editor to help oversee daily operations and longterm strategy for veranda.com and our social media platforms. The ideal candidate is a highly organized leader with substantial experience in lifestyle and service writing and a strong passion for the brand.The deputy editor will be involved in almost every part of the daily operations of the site. This editor should be comfortable managing SEO and e-commerce lineups, creating digital packages, and line-editing and writing features. In addition to editorial skills, management and interpersonal skill are essential as this editor will also coordinate assignments among a small team of hybrid print/digital editors, an assistant editor, and freelance writers. He/she will also liaise with photo editors, branded content editors, and the SEO and e-commerce team. This position is located in Birmingham, Alabama. We will not be able to consider remote candidates.

• Make SEO and news assignments, approve pitches, build schedules, ensure top edit and copy edit reads happen
• Work with SEO, product, eComm teams to ensure best practices for veranda.com
• Assist editor-in-chief in developing editorial strategy and sellable franchises for veranda.com
• Manage assistant editor, digital
• Top edit stories
• Write stories, particularly in the news category
• Represent Veranda on sales calls
• Curate weekly newsletter content
Who you are:
• You are a strong writer, editor, and reporter who delivers clean, concise, and correct copy on deadline.
• You have good judgment as to what works to drive audience and engagement.
• You are a strategic thinker with creative packaging ideas.
• You not only understand analytics but can translate them into editorial action. You are familiar with Google Analytics.
• You are a whiz when it comes to SEO best practices.
• You are curious, willing to roll up your sleeves, and keep pace with the constantly-evolving digital landscape.
• You are driven team player who can keep up in a fast-paced environment.
• You have strong time management, communication, and interpersonal skills-and above all-are fun (!) with a positive and professional attitude.
• You have a bachelor's degree and at least 5 years relevant digital editorial experience.
