Job Description
TITLE: Art Director

DUTIES: Hearst Communications, Inc. seeks Art Director in New York, NY to design and create the aesthetic representation of the brand. Coordinate with Editor-In-Chief and senior editors to develop layout concepts. Design features and department pages. Direct photographers and stylists for commissioned photoshoots. Perform pre-press duties and review page proofs. Manage and direct freelancers and Junior Designers. Develop concepts to visually illustrate articles. Design typographic treatments to enhance visuals. Design special advertising sections and supplements to feature sponsor advertisers' products. Develop style templates for magazine sections. Work with Market Department to edit product images for shopping pages. Perform art direction of photography of products to be included in magazine. Review pages for color accuracy with Imaging Specialist and perform direct retouching and color correction

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Art, Design, Photography Fine Arts, or a related field and seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in the job offered or related occupation: designing and creating brand aesthetic; reviewing color proofs; performing pre-press and file preparation; developing typography; developing and extending brand identity programs and maintaining compliance with brand presentation; and designing advertising materials and working with advertising clients.
