Your Impact:
Food Network Magazine is seeking a creative, motivated and detail-oriented art director to join its editorial art department. This position involves collaborating with the art, photo and edit departments to design layouts for overlapping magazine issues, books and other special projects. The candidate must have experience art directing food photoshoots, have a strong background in typography and page design, and showcase an exceptional sense of color and experience working with imaging and prepress specialists. In addition, the Art Director will be managing a small team of designers and be responsible for managing assignments, deadlines and shipping the issues.
Responsibilities (included but not limited to):
• Design front-of-book and feature stories
• Art direct photo shoots / coordinate props with stylists
• Mark up color corrections in layouts and review with image specialist
• Manage art department; assigning stories and overseeing workflow
• Work closely with creative director to maintain and evolve the look of the magazine
• Design special sections, books and other special projects
• Assign illustrations
Requirements:
• At least 6 years design experience (preferably for consumer magazines)
• Thorough knowledge of typography, color and space
• Ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment
• Experience working with prepress and production
• Food photo shoot experience
• Expert knowledge of Adobe programs: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator (After Effects a plus but not required)
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, Power Point
• A plus but not required: knowledge or basic understanding of Smart Connection/Woodwing, Assets photo library, Content Station and Dalim
The base salary for this role is between $73,000 and $102,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
