Staff Software Engineer - HBO Max

The Job

Like to develop features that connect and impact millions of customers? The Partner Commerce team works closely with app stores and other partners to create the best customer experiences for purchasing and managing HBO Max subscriptions. We are dedicated to continuous improvement and are looking for talented engineers to join the team to optimize the journey from awareness to streaming. We're looking for Engineers that have an interest in the space and a passion for creating great software.

As a Staff Software Engineer on WarnerMedia's Partner Commerce team, you will design, improve, and protect large-scale systems for managing customer subscriptions. You will build industry-leading features across multiple device platforms. You will own and improve features like in app purchases, user messaging, and gift cards. By working on our team, you will make some of the world's best content accessible to millions of customers, safely and seamlessly. In this role you will join a growing team with many opportunities for you to expand your scope and influence. You will use data and your experience to make smart engineering decisions and own critical areas of a product used by millions of customers. You will get the opportunity to work in multiple areas of the product, both on the client-side and server-side.

The Daily
• Lead the architecture, implementation, and delivery of large engineering projects/features that interact with multiple teams and own critical features of a product used by millions of customers.
• Improve, and protect large-scale systems for managing customer subscriptions for HBO Max
• Influence technology, process, standards, and best practices across the team
• Mentor other engineers to help them grow both technically and professionally
• Ensure consistency of your team's' code and those teams you integrate with
• Help your organization grow into green-field technical domain areas
• Work with designers, product managers, and marketers to optimize the purchase experience for HBO Max
• Ideate and innovate on complex software solutions
• Be a subject matter expert and team resource, growing other engineers including defining team software standards and engineering best practices
• Design and deliver complex architectures and distributed systems, including working through other engineers to help deliver the end solution
• Describe highly technical concepts to non-technical audiences in a way they can understand

The Essentials
• 8+ years of experience in software engineering building large-scale, highly available applications and services core to shipped consumer products or platforms
• Be passionate about software engineering with a strong sense of ownership for the code that you and your team write
• Deep understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, and operating systems
• Fluency in a modern programming language (ideally Java, C#, JavaScript, or TypeScript)
• Be a quick learner that can leverage surrounding resources to solve problems
• Seek self-improvement and adapt to suggestions and feedback
• Hold yourself and your team to high standards while maintaining respectful relationships
• Be passionate about software engineering with a strong sense of ownership for the code that you and your team write
• Ability to provide periodic on-call support for critical emergent customer-facing issues
• Strong experience building highly available microservices, especially containerized and serverless.
• Solid understanding of how the internet works and operates, particularly in client/server transactions with a keen knowledge of HTTP, DNS, REST, etc.
• Experience creating automated tests as part of the development lifecycle. Passion for test driven development.
• Expert knowledge of public cloud solutions like AWS, Azure or GCP and
• Experience creating and maintaining CI/CD Pipelines
• A passion for learning, sharing knowledge, mentoring, and working in a team setting with engineers of varying levels of experience
• Passion for collaboration, and fun is a must!

Nice to Haves
• Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science-related discipline
• DevOps experience, where you've owned and operated the systems you've developed
• Experience in monitoring and telemetry: Telegraf, Grafana, InfluxDB, and Prometheus
• Full-stack industry experience, or hands-on familiarity with both client and server technology
• Hands-on experience with web, mobile, game console, set-top box and/or TV client application development
• Success in designing and building highly available systems at scale
• Success in designing and building exciting, highly polished, and dynamic user experiences
• Experience with a variety of back-end persistence, queuing and networking technologies, especially Kubernetes and AWS
• Experience with security software engineering, especially for distributed applications
