The Job

The Senior Production Manager for CNN Digital Video is a crucial technology and production role that enables producers, DoPs and other field production specialists from all Digital Video teams at CNN to operate with the best tools, at optimum efficiency and with a creative advantage. On a day-to-day basis, this position, reporting to the Senior Director of Video Production Technology for CNN Digital, will manage a team of production support specialists, DoPs, and production schedules to ensure that field production teams are working efficiently and utilizing leading edge and first-class workflows. Building and optimizing camera strategy, for production teams and working closely with producers to solve field production challenges is an essential part of the role. A passion for deadline-driven news environments is required, and an ability to multi-task and communicate complex technology in relatable terms is a must. Advanced knowledge of cinema cameras from manufacturers like RED, Sony, and Arri is essential.

The Daily
• Management, optimization and maintenance coordination of CNN Digital Video gear including digital cinema cameras, sound, lighting, grip and specialty equipment (25%)
• Interfacing with producers for the proper selection and check-out/check-in procedures for all field production equipment (10%)
• Maintain production calendars for shared resources including studios and edit suites (10%)
• Evangelize new and emerging field production technology and train producers on equipment (10%)
• Management of a team of DoPs, production specialists, and production schedules. (15%)
• Troubleshoot and report production related technical failures and act as a liaison to appropriate partners to ensure timely resolution (15%)
• Coordinate purchases of operating and capital production equipment (10%)
• Work as production and support crew on high profile productions as necessary (5%)

The Essentials
• 5-7 years' experience in a production or post-production environment
• High level proficiency with digital cinema cameras and related accessories, including Sony, RED, and Arri.
• High level understanding of Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and Media Encoder, and color pipelines related to camera dailies.
• Proven ability to organize workflows and tracking systems in a fast-paced, creative environment
• Hands-on experience with digital cinema production
• Ability to work nights and weekends to support news & documentary production
