Job Description

Title: Data Scientist II, Content Data Science - HBO Max

The Job

We are looking for a Data Scientist II to join the Content Data Science team at HBO Max.

As a Data Scientist, you will have the opportunity to work on challenging and greenfield problems to help HBO Max grow through this exciting time of streaming expansion in the entertainment sector. One of the projects you will get to work on is to enrich the contextual tagging information we have for our exciting content library at HBO Max. This project may involve diverse applications of data science and A.I. such as NLP for enriching our text data and potentially computer vision and signal processing for our content right through to techniques to analyse time series data. You will leverage your statistical and machine learning skills on topics related to content ranging from title performance, cost optimisation, and causal estimation, to computer vision. You will be a hands-on domain expert working with cross-functional partners to solve broader business problems with data-driven insights and algorithmic thinking.

The Daily
• Develop solutions and build prototypes to solve business problems using machine learning and statistical analysis
• Create impact by helping to solve difficult data science problems using a variety of ML techniques with careful investigations into accuracy / performance
• Synthesize analytics and statistical approaches into easy-to-consume storylines, both visually and verbally, and clearly communicate with both non-data science audiences (such as creatives) and data scientists
• Work closely with the wider data science team as well as supporting and presenting to multiple stakeholders

The Essentials
• M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Mathematics, Machine Learning, Engineering, Physics or other quantitative fields preferred.
• At least 2 years of experience in an industry setting
• Knowledge of underlying mathematical foundations of statistics, machine learning, optimisation and analytics
• Experienced in Python and SQL
• Experience building and using state of the art models such as deep learning in NLP or computer vision or similar application

Nice to Haves
• Proven ability in building relationships and collaborate with stakeholders across large organizations
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Experience with deep learning in NLP / computer vision and knowledge of language embeddings
• Experience working on large unstructured data such as text, images or audio with a track record of delivering state of the art data science solutions
