About the DC Bureau:

The Gray Television Washington News Bureau's focus is hyper-local coverage of Washington news for our TV stations. We work closely with the stations to report on issues directly affecting viewers in their markets. Our primary job is to speak with senators and congressmen about local and national issues and to hold them accountable. Our team has built strong contacts with these lawmakers. Members of Congress know when they talk to Gray Television reporters, they have a direct line of communication with their constituents. We also provide our stations coverage of local people who visit Washington - whether it's a businessperson testifying at a congressional hearing or a local veteran coming to visit our national memorials.

Job Summary/Description:

Gray Television is looking for a Production Systems Manager to work at the DC Bureau. This person will operate/maintain all the studio and remote production equipment during live productions as well as pre-recorded content being generated in the DC Bureau. This position supports DC Bureau operations with a commitment to the production of high quality and error free programs and events.

Applicant should have a customer service-oriented focus to serving the needs of all the DC Bureau operations. The position hours will be flexible to meet the demands of the DC Bureau during times of live shots setup for all the Gray stations across the US. Work closely with all entities operating from the DC Bureau to ensure they have the support they need when they need it.

Be prepared to not only solve the issues that may arise in the Bureau but also be prepared to support the local stations remotely to facilitate a successful live hit. Work with Corp Technology Team to provide good communication and support during all technology changes made to the Bureau. Be the hands on the ground during those Corporate Technology implementations. Automated video/audio production systems, wireless microphone systems, audio and video routers, lighting boards and kits, video servers, LiveU, TVU and livestream servers, robotic camera controls. Prepare microphones and IFB for productions.

Ensure studio equipment is functioning properly, including lights, monitors, and computers. Tune in live shots via TVU, LiveU or Livelink. Ensure proper setup and routing for all IFB circuits so talent can coordinate seamlessly with DC Bureau and all Gray stations. Coordinate support for breaking news and executes live and taped productions in the Bureau. Monitors and works creatively to constantly improve and evolve the look and execution of all Bureau productions.

Identify technical issues and/or technical improvements needed relating to video production quality and work-flow. Ensure that those issues are handled promptly and communicate those issues and repair statuses to everyone in the Bureau. Learn technical equipment and server functions and assist all Bureau entities with new equipment integrations. When designing these workflows, ensure that equipment can be set up and operated solo by a multimedia journalist. Work well with the Gray Corp team and representatives to ensure world class support to all Bureau entities.

Preform weekly preventative maintenance on all systems and daily equipment checks on both studios and all production equipment in the DC Bureau to ensure proper operation. Maintain the operations manual and update as needed for all systems in the DC Bureau.

Qualifications/Requirements:

College or trade school degree/diploma in Video Production, or a related field. Equivalent training and/or experience accepted.

Experience:
- Four (4) years directing or production support experience for a television or cable station.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- A broad and thorough knowledge of television production equipment.
- Proficiency with automated video/audio production systems, studio/field cameras, broadcast graphics systems, and video server operations.
- Strong computer knowledge required.
- Effective communication skills.
- Customer Service Focus a MUST.
