Job Summary/Description:

FOX 12 Oregon, the #1 local news station in the Portland market, is hiring an Assistant News Director to guide overall coverage for our award-winning newscasts, mentor and grow storytellers in our newsroom, and provide dynamic leadership to our reporters, anchors, and other work groups.

The Assistant News Director will work directly with the News Director and news management team to carry out the station's brand in all dayparts both on television and in the digital space. The ideal candidate will be a vocal leader in the newsroom driving breaking news coverage, facilitating important editorial and policy discussions, and raising the level of our storytelling and the production value of FOX 12 newscasts.

Duties/Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Taking a leadership role in determining content and coverage plans for the newsroom... from developing story ideas in the editorial meetings through execution in the field and in the newscasts
- Working with reporters and field crews daily on content development strategies, storytelling techniques, and ideas for active live shots
- Helping reporters, anchors, and producers craft better scripts for packages, important VOB and VO stories, opens, and teases
- Fostering a team environment, and maintaining a positive, inclusive culture in the newsroom
- Supervising the Enterprise Content Team by helping those reporters and producers brainstorm and deliver promotable stories on a regular basis focusing on advocacy journalism and investigative principles
- The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and administrative skills, flexibility to work multiple schedules depending on the demands of each unique news day, and a passion for coaching and growing journalists

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism or related field preferred, or equivalent training and/or experience.
Experience: At least 5 years experience as a newsroom leader. Strong editorial, writing, and storytelling skills and working knowledge of newsroom systems, like Avid iNews or ENPS preferred.
