Misinformation Reporter

Job Description

In this role, the incumbent will be leading ABC News coverage of misinformation and disinformation as it occurs throughout the news including political, medical, business, and climate stories.

This job would require an experienced journalist capable of interacting across all of #oneabcnews including streaming, digital, audio and broadcast.

The person hired would serve multiple roles including on-air and off-air reporter, editorial guide, and staff trainer.

Responsibilities:
• Initially, the focus of this role will be on the upcoming midterm elections
• Must be up to date on current controversies and trends in the news environment
• Must build or develop a strong network of reliable sources
• Establish close coordination with the visual verification and news practices staff to report on misinformation/disinformation

Requirements:
• At least 10 years of experience
• Must be an experienced, sharp reporter and talented storyteller
• Must have a solid understanding of the world of misinformation and the social media platforms where it first circulates
• Must possess a deep knowledge of news diginets (eg, Buzzfeed, Cheddar, etc) social media platforms (eg, Tik Tok, Snap, Twitter, Facebook).
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage data-driven reporting and share topline learnings
• The ability to conduct in-depth investigative pieces as well as cover breaking news events on a daily basis
• A commitment to reaching out to a diverse range of sources
• The ability to manage relationships within ABC News to maintain the highest journalist standards
