Fox Television Stations is one of the nation's largest owned-and-operated network broadcast groups, comprising 29 stations in 18 markets and covering over 37% of US television homes. This includes seven duopolies in the top 10 markets: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Washington, DC and Houston; as well as duopolies in Minneapolis, Phoenix, Orlando and Seattle.

JOB DESCRIPTION

FOX 26 KRIV in Houston, TX is seeking an experienced Chief Meteorologist who is responsible for the daily operations of the weather department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead the weather team in developing innovative ways to deliver weather information in all forms: newscasts, continuous weather coverage during severe storms, and on digital platforms
• Develop and implement a severe weather plan
• Create compelling content with graphics and video beyond just the use of maps to create weather segments particularly on a day without severe weather
• Required to exploit the power of the current newsroom weather technology and keep up on industry standards and developments
• Review station weathercasts to insure continuity
• Be active on social media to engage viewers; work with digital team to provide additional content for website, You Tube and other digital platforms
• Must have the ability to report live in the field during weather events as well as live feature remotes to engage the community
• Contribute stories both weather-oriented, hard news as well as weather features
• Develop weather specials and contribute content
• Work with News Management on editorial content as well as operational/equipment needs
• Coordinates all scheduling and broadcast deadlines.
• Leads and participates in all scheduled meetings.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Other duties as deemed and as assigned.
• Assist with newscasts outside the normal work schedule at times of severe weather conditions or breaking news.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must possess the desire to ''win weather'' on air and on line everyday
• have experience in severe weather coverage and knowledge of industry-standard broadcast weather computer and radar systems and be able to create unique graphics
• Must be a great communicator (both oral and written) and possess the ability to communicate live in the studio as well as on remotes in the field
• Be able to ''tell the weather story'' in an innovative, relevant and interesting way to viewers even on days when the weather is quiet
• Be able to effectively and calmly communicate with the public on all platforms during severe weather; previous hurricane coverage a plus
• Must be able to multi-task and work well under pressure
• Demonstrated experience in use of social media and alert systems to disseminate weather information across multiple platforms
• Ability to shoot/edit and report stories as well as do traditional weathercasts
• Must exercise good judgement and knowledge of fair and accurate journalistic practices
• Minimum of 3-5 years' experience as a broadcast meteorologist preferred
• Four year college or university degree required
• AMS Seal or NWS certification preferred
• Must be flexible and be able to work extended hours, varied schedules and holidays as required
• Driver's license and credit card required
