Director, Human Resources - United States Football League (USFL)

JOB DESCRIPTION

The United State Football League (USFL) is searching for a Human Resources Director in Birmingham, Alabama. As the HR Director, you will plan, steer, direct, develop, and coordinate the policies/activities, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the organizations mission and strategy. You will be responsible for tactical initiatives that shape the culture, engage all employees, and drive organizational results. The ideal candidate must demonstrate the ability to become a trusted partner and advisor for leaders and employees, bringing a passion for grass roots building and delivering practical, results-oriented solutions. This position will be situated within the footprint of the USFL offices and work day-to-day with USFL management but will report to the EVP, HR & Business Operations of FOX Sports. The role requires the individual to be in Birmingham much of the time (especially during the season) but can be remote after the season concludes.

The new USFL is an American football league, owned by FOX Sports, that will deliver high-quality, innovative professional football played in the spring and early summer. There will be eight teams in the new USFL, split into two divisions. Each team will play a 10-game schedule followed by 4-team semifinals and a championship game. In the inaugural season of the USFL, all eight teams will play in one location – Birmingham, AL. In the future, the USFL expects teams to play in their own markets. The 2022 USFL regular season will begin in mid-April and run through mid-June, followed by the playoffs. FOX Sports is an official broadcast partner of the USFL and will air games on a weekly basis.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collaborate with senior management to understand the organizations goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention
• Directly provide the provision of expert advice and counsel to management on all organization and human resources issues
• Plan, develop, coordinate, and implement policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organizations human resource compliance and strategy needs
• Administer or oversee the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
• Identify staffing and recruiting needs; develops and executes best practices for hiring and talent management
• Shepherd the implementation of all key company-wide HR initiatives and life cycle activities for the client group
• Conduct research and assessment of organizational trends including review of reports and metrics from the organizations human resource information system (HRIS) or talent management system
• Monitor and ensure the organizations compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance
• Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.
• Perform other duties as required

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• 5+ years of HR management experience
• Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
• Strong experience and demonstrated skills in handling a variety of employee relations matters
• Be highly adaptable to a fluid and ever-changing work environment - capability to adapt to the needs of the organization and employees
• Strong work ethic: self-motivated with a desire to take initiative and seek ways to improve processes and create efficiencies
• Excellent communication and presentation skills as well as solid problem solving, strategic and analytical skills
• Capacity to exercise a high degree of professionalism and diplomacy in interactions with all levels of the organization
• Capability to make tough choices and deliver difficult messages
• Ability to work weekends during the season
• Excellent project/program management skills
• Exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills
• Proven ability to influence decision making
• Outstanding time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines

NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A DEAL BREAKER
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, or related field
• Experience within entertainment or sports industry
