JOB DESCRIPTION

Fox News is looking for a freelance desk assistant to join our Assignment Desk team in the DC Bureau. As a freelance desk assistant, you will work on the Assignment Desk as an assistant to the Assignment Editor in coordinating coverage, moving crews, answering phones, reaching out to agencies for information, and reacting to breaking news in a fast-paced 24-hour news environment.
Other duties include working with our production team and editors to search VIZ and Ardome to find and match appropriate video to live television scripts. You are a curious individual that is hungry to learn, willing to ask questions, and works daily to build your skills.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assists assignment editors with answering phones, collecting information, directing crews, and reaching out to confirm information
• Tracks news stories via Twitter, newswires, and other news organizations
• Works with editors, producers, and reporters to produce news segments for live air
• Searches VIZ and Ardome to find files, day-of, and event video
• Watches events and logs material with the goal of identifying news highlights and flagging news developments

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• Bachelor's degree with a concentration in journalism, communications, political science, or a related field
• 1 year of broadcast experience in a network or local newsroom
• Strong editorial judgment and logistical skills
• Candidates must be willing to work both weekend days. Availability to work other shifts including weekends, nights and overnights will allow additional opportunities
• Knowledge of national politics and the DC area
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced intense atmosphere
• Familiarity with VIZ, ARDOME, and INEWS
• Motivated, self-starter who is able to work independently as well as in a team environment
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize is a necessity
• Research skills of current events and ability to monitor social media for news
