Weekend News Desk Assistant (PT)

WLUK FOX 11 News has an immediate opening for a part-time Weekend News Desk Assistant. The part time desk assistant position supports the weekend newsroom operations by answering telephone calls and emails. The successful candidate will also be trained to update station digital and social media platforms. This is an excellent opportunity to begin a professional communications career, while learning more about broadcast journalism and digital media. Successful candidate will have a strong interest in news and public affairs, and a desire to learn more about journalism, digital media and the communications industry.

Responsibilities include:
• Support newsroom operations on weekend day shifts
• Answer incoming telephone calls
• Respond to incoming emails
• Post news content on station digital and social media platforms
• Relay information to other newsroom employees
• Operate equipment to receive video feeds
• Operate newsroom software system
• Other duties as assigned

Experience:
• College experience with digital and/or broadcast media is preferred
• Journalism/Communications coursework in writing and disseminating information
• Experience with social media platforms
• Computer competency and strong understanding and respect for a team work environment
• This position includes paid training and on boarding

General Hours:
• Weekend day shift and some holidays
