Role Summary:
Manage all financial aspects of all development and production activities for Family Brands. Advise the business on structure optimization, support in planning and execution of financial aspects of all development and production activities. Be key finance business partner for Production and Development leads – from concept though to distribution handoff. Oversee royalty (participation and residuals) reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
• Key business partner for all production and development leads.
• Reviewing and where necessary challenging the budgets for all development and productions. Advising on appropriateness of budget structures to optimise tax credit opportunity and to stay onside with local tax/transfer pricing requirements. Advising on appropriateness of costs budgeted based on equivalent projects and industry norms.
• Waterfall modelling for deal support and to support negotiations with broadcast partners and co-production partners.
• Key finance point of contact throughout greenlight process. Drafting of greenlight packages for approval in accordance with the eOne greenlighting process working closely with Toy/Licensed CP/Content Sales teams.
• Working closely with BLA to ensure alignment on the contracting and legal entity structuring for all developments and productions.
• Finance contact point for co-production partners and studios.
• Key divisional point of contact for Production Accounting and Finance Shared Service Center (SSC). Manage the relationship between SSC and Development and Production teams. Be the translation point, facilitator and decision maker. Balance process and SOX needs of the SSC with Family Brands optimal ways of working. Advocate and mediate where necessary.
• Responsible for ensuring accounting and reporting of development and production spends (including spends of co-production partners) for all developments and productions meets Family Brands needs. Some of this will be hands on, some performed by SSC. Responsible to updating Family Brands leadership periodically on cost tracking.
• Key point of contact for Commercial Finance team – particularly for month end reconciliation of all development and production spend, annual budget, quarterly forecast cash flows and periodic KPI analysis as requested.
• Manage the updating of slate documents so there is always a current snapshot of production status and visibility of upcoming anticipated projects.
• Scrutinise cost reports from production partners and from SSC production accountants, interrogate and challenge where necessary. Partner Production leads to manage costs within budget (attend monthly cost report meetings).
• Responsible for participations and residuals reporting. Managing the Director, Outbound Royalties. Ensuring all statements are thoroughly reviewed, prepared in accordance with contractual terms and reported on time.
Key Competencies:
• Qualified accountant with significant experience of working in complex multi-territory Production Finance and Operations teams.
• A thorough knowledge of major financing models worldwide for development and production and more specifically involving network license fees, funding and subsidy models, tax credits and co-pro treaties in the US, Canada, Ireland, France, Australia, the UK and China.
• Significant demonstrable experience of managing and challenging cost reports and budgets across multiple projects.
• Experience of ACTRA/US union/collective bargaining agreements and participations reporting.
• Working knowledge of production budget /scheduling process for 2D and 3D animation, standard industry commercial terms and parameters
• Working knowledge of Movie Magic and SMART accounting an advantage
• Strong internal and external communications skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong negotiating skills and excellent presentation skills.
• Experience with cash management, accounting operations, financial and management reporting, foreign exchange management and treasury operations.
• Experience managing within a matrix organisation, influencing without direct line management authority, remote/distant management all an advantage.
• Familiarity and competence with MS Office suite of products. SAP experience an advantage.
