Technical Director - Ridgeline Games

Ridgeline Games is focused on building rich narrative campaigns with memorable characters and powerful experiences all in the Battlefield universe. We are building a new studio in the Seattle area composed of leaders and talent with a vast array of AAA game dev experience. As we assemble our diverse team, all who have a voice in making great games together, we're looking for a healthy mixture of tempered veterans and young passionate individuals eager to make a difference.

Role Overview:

As the Technical Director you will guide technical planning on a development team to build, launch, and support a world class experience on a variety of platforms. You lead the engineering component of the team and provide direction to senior technical leads. In this important leadership role, you will work with other product leaders and technical partners as the technical expert for the team. Technical Directors balance strategic and tactical direction to deliver and maintain stable, scalable, cost-effective games with focused innovations.

Responsibilities:
• As the Technical Director, reporting into the Studio GM, you will blend hands-on technical work with technical leadership to support launching and maintaining a world class experience.
• Set and enforce professional software standards across the engineering team, including partner teams within and outside the organization.
• Make (or delegate making) software design and implementation decisions.
• Manage technical risks and opportunities.
• Partner with other team leaders to manage change
• Oversee the quality of technical deliveries.
• Approves (or delegate approval) of all technical designs and effort / time estimates.
• Work through technical leads to provide solutions to project-wide problems.
• Define memory and performance budgets for an entire project; enforce the application of performance budget and best practices.
• Collaborate with other Technical Directors at EA to identify opportunities and risks, to share best practices processes.
• Use metrics and analytics to anticipate future technology issues affecting the health or quality of the team and product.
• Mentor software engineers on the team.
• Recruit and retain world-class talent to the team and company.

Qualifications:
• Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent degree preferred.
• 10+ years software development experience.
• 5+ years of technical leadership experience.
• Experience leading engineering teams of a dozen or more in size.
• Conflict management skills.
• Balanced technical, team, product, project and requirements for successful outcomes.
• Capability to make positive changes to teams, products and businesses.
• Solid knowledge of game application technology spanning client, server and infrastructure systems.
