Disney Streaming encompasses the teams leading the Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, and Star+ streaming services within Disney's Media & Entertainment Distribution group. The Acquisitions & Licensing team within the Programming and Content Curation department of Disney Streaming, serves as the central hub for third-party content acquisitions and licensing for Disney+, Star and Star+. Working with the regional executive leadership and local business affairs and legal teams, as well domestic leadership, legal, sales, programming and finance teams, this team negotiates and manages deals, reconciles deal points, ensures consistency with strategy, and provides guidance and business counsel. Working also with Content Planning and Operations, this team advocates for consistent technical and delivery requirements in order to optimize opportunities in a rapidly changing business and technical environment.
The Senior Manager, Acquisitions & Licensing will support the VP and the Executive Director in negotiating, structuring, managing and reviewing a high volume of various worldwide agreements and acquisitions, reconciling deal points, and ensuring consistency. The candidate will also take the lead in negotiating certain deals and assist the team with reviewing new content opportunities and developing the tracking and reporting tools.
Responsibilities:
• Negotiate, analyze and manage Disney+, Star and Star+ acquisitions and licensing deals for third-party content.
• Support the Executive Director and VP, Acquisitions & Licensing to structure and negotiate complex deals, reconcile deal points, and ensure consistency and avoid precedents that could cause issues.
• Partner with the international and domestic business affairs, sales, programming, legal and finance teams to negotiate and execute deals, assist where needed, provide guidance, and ensure consistency with strategy and best practices.
• Assist the Executive Director in reviewing and providing business counsel on a high volume of various agreements and acquisitions that are in play worldwide.
• Analyze deal structures and advise on deal points.
• Perform complex financial deal analysis.
• Summarize and communicate complex contractual analyses in an efficient and effective manner to a variety of audiences.
• Create and maintain deal summaries, deal memos, tracking reports, and various communications.
• Attend meetings to represent the Acquisitions & Licensing team.
• Assist the Acquisitions & Licensing team with reviewing new content opportunities, tracking content and deals, and documenting and establishing the deal process workflow, ensuring all stakeholders are notified.
Basic Qualifications:
• 5+ years minimum of Managerial, Business Affairs, or Legal Affairs related work experience within acquisition, licensing or a related field
• Experience with content acquisition agreements
• Experience licensing out content and knowledge of content licensing agreements
• Intermediate experience negotiating, structuring and managing a high volume of deals
• Intermediate experience with Excel and financial deal analysis
• Project management experience with excellent organizational skills
• In-depth understanding of licensing agreements, industry landscape, and current competitive trends
• Ability to analyze and advise on detailed contractual ramifications of deal points
• Self-starter with meticulous attention to detail
• Effective and collaborative communicator, with an ability to lead through influence rather than by hierarchy
• Experience with preparing executive-level presentations or summaries
• Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills, with a demonstrated track record of sound professional judgment
• Extensive hands-on experience with complex contracts
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with negotiating and structuring a wide variety of streaming content acquisition, distribution and production agreements
• Experience with reviewing, comprehending and summarizing legal documents
• Passionate about The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) and its brands and content
Required Education
• Juris Doctor degree
