Job Description
Overview

The Sound Manager is responsible for managing a busy, in-house audio facility consisting of Production Sound Control Rooms, Commentary booths and Multi-Audio Rooms. The manager is the principal on site contact for all facility clients, working as part of the organisation delivering services to the international business and ensuring the facility operates to the highest standards.

This role will oversee the day to day management and development of the Sound facility and staff and provide a professional contact for the production clients and includes close, effective collaboration with associated operations within the service delivery chain.

Responsibilities
• Manage, lead and develop a team of people.
• Oversee and govern the Sound Department with responsibility for ensuring services are delivered to the highest standards
• Establish regular communication and strong working relationships with key clients within the business with a focus on future strategy and planned production throughput
• Work collaboratively with other GT&O organisations i.e. MAM, Ingest, Engineering, MCR, Programming, OAP, Preview Team and Transmission ensuring working relationships and communication are of the highest standards
• Identify key development opportunities for improved workflows, system development and enhanced reporting. Driving forward the system and software development needs for the facility with the Engineering team, overseeing testing, implementation, and relevant training.
• Mentor and coach direct reports
• Develop in-house talent through the provision of comprehensive technical training
• Actively manage POs, invoices and track additional costs
• On behalf of Production Operations lead projects and initiatives with focus on successful delivery of projects on time and in budget
• Manage workflow and system changes
• Provide support to the line manager in operational and strategic decision making
• Identify savings opportunities; promote sharing of best practice and process change opportunities to increase efficiency
• Assist in Production Operations execution and implementation of new business plans, launches and initiatives.
• Other duties as required

Qualifications
• Significant experience in audio within broadcast
• Strong leadership and team management skills demonstrating the ability to motivate, develop and inspire a team
• Proven track record in managing large, successful teams, delivering to the highest standards
• Adept at working collaboratively with other service delivery internal departments
• Pro-active in trouble-shooting, problem solving and avoidance of issues
• Adaptable and flexible in a challenging, demanding and fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication skills and ability to represent Production Operations Audio at a high level in meetings
• Take the lead for the Sound department in projects and initiatives, ensuring a considered and effective approach is deployed, projects are delivered on time and to budget and risks and issues highlighted
• Ability to prioritize and work autonomously under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Strong team player and solid interpersonal skills
• Experience of budget and expense management
