Job Description
The Director of Development will play a key role in the Production Unit, responsible for
managing and expanding the development slate for Discovery Latin America and US Hispanic,
seeking out new factual, lifestyle and general entertainment programming ideas, concepts,
talents and formats.

Responsibilities
• Research and develop programming ideas including writing requests for proposals and developing internally generated ideas.

• Review pitches, concepts, treatments, and materials submitted from external producers and work with Production team to provide timely feedback as assigned.

• Attract top filmmaking talent, both established and emerging, to produce with Discovery

• Take pitches from producers and filmmakers, self-generate and self-package ideas

• Identify industry trends and programming formats throughout Latin America, US and International.

• Develop new relationships and maintain existing relationships with the creative community, producers and writers. Build new relationships with potential partners and gather production companies intelligence when necessary.

• Clearly communicate DSC LA/USH's editorial requirements and standards of quality to outside production companies during earliest stages of development and pre-production.

• Supervise outside production companies on to ensure high quality, timely and on-budget development and delivery.

• Producing pitch tapes from top to bottom, casting characters, and writing treatments as needed.

• Coordinate monthly Development/update meetings with the Production and Content departments.

Requirements
* At least 10 years of experience in the TV industry as a writer, producer or head of development.
* Experience in a wide variety of program genres (e.g. entertainment, documentary, reality, drama, docureality, etc.).
* Strong motivational skills, with demonstrated ability to work with little supervision and under pressure to meet tight deadlines within budgetary constraints.
* Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
* Ability to consistently generate and execute new ideas. Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects in varying stages.
* Must have extensive experience sourcing, developing and delivering high-quality, brand-defining non-scripted series.
* Strong knowledge of the Latin American producing community and established relationships.
* Passionate about all things travel, television & pop culture and keenly follows digital / social trends.
* Deep experience in managing creative projects and establishing key processes to enable top-quality development of people, strategy & initiatives
* Sophisticated cultural observer with a keen understanding of TV narrative, and knowledge of current audience tastes and future trends
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
* English and preferably Spanish/Portuguese
