The Job
''Don't read me the news, tell me the story''. Yes, besides being a breaking news channel, we want to tell stories. We are looking for excellent storytellers capable of building a strong CNN's voice.
We pride ourselves on pursuing unique, compelling stories and telling them with a sweeping, chronicle style. This person creates and curates text, video and audio stories that are published and shared across CNN en Español mobile and desktop sites, apps, social accounts and other platforms. This is not just an 'article writer'. Our mission is to create experiences that the fans of our properties will find meaningful, engaging and conversation-worthy while fulfilling the goals of the brand sponsoring the content. All writer/producers must be their own copy editors -- this isn't to say that they won't have a second set of eyes because all copy does -- but that CNN's news writer/producers are skillful and swift.
The Daily
• Creates, develops and edits content for multiple platforms with a cohesive narrative under deadline.
• Takes assignments for daily news and some longer-term stories and projects.
• Pitches compelling, informative, community-building, creative content that support key stories/themes/initiatives or that otherwise dazzle.
• Write both short- and long-form scripts for existing and new video franchises, spanning a variety of social media platforms (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok).
• Take part in weekly content brainstorms and production meetings.
• Pitch new concepts for video franchises and assist in refining existing ones.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure the production of high quality work.
• Assist in other tasks related to video productions and/or distribution channels
The Essentials
• Proven experience as a content creator and writer.
• Comfortable on-camera; familiarity with video production a plus.
• Experience writing for broadcast and/or developing multimedia concepts.
• Ability to write clear, accurate news stories.
• Experience writing breaking news in real time as a story unfolds.
• Ability to frame stories for a global panregional digital audience.
• A track record of pitching and executing story ideas.
• College degree or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years editorial and digital storytelling and news environment experience.
• Proven ability to develop and produce video over mobile and/or television platforms.
• Passion for topical news and key issues of the moment.
• Superior editorial judgment, writing, producing, and editing skills.
• Understanding of diverse video formats, from live programming to storytelling.
