Job Description
CNN Digital is hiring an Asia Writer to cover the region, with a focus on breaking news and emerging trends. They will be expected to consistently deliver original, insightful journalism that explores and explains crucial regional issues to a global audience. The successful candidate must have exceptional editorial judgment and demonstrated versatility within a digital news team at an international media company. The role can be based in either Seoul, Hong Kong or Bangkok.
What will you be doing?
• Helping define the daily news agenda, focusing on creative story angles and coverage
• Utilizing on-the-ground knowledge and contacts to uncover original content ideas
• Writing international-caliber breaking news with clarity, context and urgency while following digital best practices (eg SEO, mobile headlines etc)
• Able to break news from the region
• Work with newsgathering and TV colleagues across Asia and the US, for cross-platform storytelling opportunities
• Initiate and execute creative ways of covering regional events that engage with audiences – both news and feature content
• Contributing to newsletters as required
• Ensuring all content adheres to CNN standards and integrity
• Bringing an in-depth working knowledge of, and passion for Asia
• What do we need from you?
• Significant digital writing experience
• Understanding of how to reach and engage digital audiences on various platforms
• Ability to file clean, clear and well-written copy
• Experience covering Northeast Asia, specifically North Korea, South Korea and Japan considered an advantage
• Excellent knowledge and experience of international news and current affairs, with an emphasis on Asian themes, subjects and trends
• Exceptional written and verbal English
• Strong team and communication skills
• Detail oriented, strong organization skills & ability to meet deadlines
• Must work well under pressure and in a demanding, fast-paced environment
