JOB SUMMARY
This role is a key partner to the Head of Product, CNN Digital & General Manager, CNN+ and the wider product and digital portfolio leadership team. This is a data-driven, strategic executive focused on using behavioral and financial insights to develop strategies that drive the short-term and long-term growth of the digital portfolio, including CNN+.
This leader is responsible for identifying growth areas for our products, overseeing distribution efforts for CNN+, and overseeing our strategic subscription performance team.
In success, the person will drive the interpretation and application of data to create business insights that impact activity across CNN+, product, and the digital portfolio organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Leads the thinking and analysis that drive business growth on key strategic projects in partnership with the CNN leadership team
• Develop and own data-driven strategic frameworks and models that drive toward business goals and KPIs across the digital portfolio, educate the organization about these models
• In close collaboration with the GM, CNN+ and leadership team, help to inform KPI-setting for business activities
• Partner with Finance and Operations to structure a yearly planning process around key goals, team strategies, and KPIs that drive performance around the overarching strategies.
• Work with team leads to cascade KPIs down from key levers (net adds, conversion rates, churn) to tactical KPIs that each team is responsible to deliver against.
• Accountable to the businesses in the digital portfolio organization to elevate business trade-offs in a timely, contextualized forum that allows for quick and informed decisioning.
• Build, develop, and lead the team in owning:
• Best practices for driving and cultivating a data-driven approach to decisions that have business impact.
• Authoring key strategies, executive reporting and positioning briefs across the portfolio of digital businesses, based on strategic priorities set by the business.
• Ensure that business plans align with growth objectives to adequately justify resource allocation.
• Accountable to digital business leaders and portfolio operations for business reporting and performance tracking.
• Extract learnings that inform and improve activities across the digital portfolio.
• Drives strategy and business decision-making on the distribution of CNN+ via MVPD, Global Platform and Telco partners, in close collaboration with business leaders across CNN and WarnerMedia
• In partnership with Sales & Distribution, identify, prioritize, scope and execute MVPD, Telco, and Global Platform partnerships to drive new subscribers, engagement and retention
QUALIFICATIONS
• 15+ years of relevant experience overseeing strategy teams in the application and interpretation of data for business and financial planning purposes.
• Experience with a content-supported business model would be a plus.
• 5+ years in a leadership role.
• Bachelor's Degree required; MBA preferred.
• Previous experience building, inspiring, and leading a team toward shared goals.
• Previous experience in an organization partnering with a robust data science and analytics discipline a plus.
• Has had previous oversight or significant stakeholdership in driving consensus across multi-disciplinary teams.
• Deep knowledge and passion for consumer trends in product and technology, specifically consumer behavior in relation to content.
• Previous experience or exposure to a newsroom or mission-driven culture a plus.
• Point-person for informing CNNWW leadership about emerging trends and how it may impact current and future planning or activities.
• Demonstrated ability to inform data gathering activities to ensure the right learnings are being captured and leveraged on behalf of the business.
• Expert in the interpretation of data and insights for business and financial planning purposes.
• Senior experience working in a cross-functional or matrixed environment.
• Deep knowledge of modern product/tech best practices and consumer trends and behavior, ideally across multiple industry sectors.
• Prior experience owning the creation and refinement of meaningful KPIs related to a direct-to-consumer business model and related activities.
