Job Description
The Role:CNN Digital is looking for a best in class editor to join its international, multi-platform team based in the Abu Dhabi/Dubai office.
We're seeking a digital editor with proven track record of editing high quality written news copy content for different digital formats including newsletter, digital news stories and social media posts. The editor will collaborate daily with CNN flagship, award-winning show Connect The World with Becky Anderson to help maximise our broadcast product across Digital platforms.
This editor will work within very tight deadlines focusing on both structural and copy editing. With a deep knowledge of the Middle East, this editor will also have a flair for ideating and shaping the editorial framing of our daily newsletters and other digital output from this office.
Above all, they will ensure that CNN maintains its high editorial standards and is steadfastly fair, balanced and accurate in its digital output.
The successful candidate will have a meticulous eye for detail and a passion for first class writing and storytelling. Fluent written and spoken Arabic and English is essential.
The Daily:
• Edit daily newsletters and digital news stories and, at times, analysis pieces and long-form features from the Middle East often to tight deadlines
• Craft sharp headlines, SEO language and other copy used to bring readers into our stories both on and off CNN's platforms
• Actively shape the flow and structure of stories
• Collaborate closely with broadcast and Newsgathering teams in Abu Dhabi
• Handle competing priorities in a fast-paced, often pressured, environment. Communicate with editors in other bureaus and time zones
• Work with individual writers and other contributors to develop their writing capabilities, offering regular feedback
• Work daily with CNN Abu Dhabi's Bureau Chief on coordinating multi-platform efforts within the region
• Work with the programming, social and SEO teams to improve story framing
• Pitch and develop Middle Eastern stories for other mediums such as audio and video
The Essentials:
• Extensive knowledge of and interest in Middle Eastern news agenda and curiosity to keep learning
• Fluency in English and Arabic, both written and spoken is essential
• Experience working at a global news organization
• Experience of editing news and features stories
• Creative ideas for digital storytelling in various formats, including newsletters and audio
• Capable of adapting to different styles of writing depending on topic and platform
• Deep understanding of journalistic standards and media law
• Strong digital capabilities including working on different Content Management Systems and news operating systems.
