Job Description
The Role:
The Media Coordinator plays a vital role in the editorial and technical aspects of video news production, balancing editorial savviness and technical know-how. This position coordinates and assigns editing tasks to the video editors liaising with various departments throughout the CNN News Group.

Some of the primary functions of this position include recording and routing feeds, quality monitoring and assessing editorial and technical components of video as well as researching, inputting and maintaining metadata pertinent to video. The Media Coordinators ingest, record and log incoming video and alert editorial production teams to the best audio and video elements available.

The Daily:
• The Media Coordinator assigns editing task to the video editors liaising with works with assignment desk, editors, correspondents, producers, control room staff, show producers, digital and features throughout the CNN News Group to identify and produce interesting and relevant video that can be incorporated into individual shows, multiple newscasts or online distribution and to ensure packages and other relevant cut material makes air.
• This position is critical for our on-air video, they can be the first person to handle video as it is taken in on a feed or ingested and the last person to handle it as it leaves the building completely edited. In between they make sure it has the proper metadata and sourcing so that it is identified on what platforms the video can and cannot be used and archived properly. Most importantly they ensure it gets edited properly representing what it is intended to represent honestly and accurately within CNN Standards and practice guidelines in order to make it on air or digital in a timely fashion.
• The Media Coordinator position is a vital link working with the London bureau HD Servers or DRE, Digital, Record and Edit. The Media Coordinator position is at the forefront of ensuring the DRE system works across the bureau liaising with BCC, the editors and engineering when there is a problem that needs to be fixed.
• The Media Coordinator often has to help our teams in the field to identify video needs, find appropriate material and either get it into edit production or move it to the team in the field so that they can use it.
• Must be up to date with knowledge of CNN agreements with affiliates and other video organisations, for example AFP and Reuters.

The Essentials:
• Understanding of video/audio technical standards.
• Strong computer skills as most activities will be computer based.
• Good grammar and punctuation.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule and to handle stressful situations.
• Knowledge and interest in day to day news stories with a good visual sense, good news judgement and possibility of working with distressing video and rolling news coverage.
• Ability to recognise key figures in the news.
• Knowledge of newsroom workflows and exposure to working in a team with video editors, control rooms, assignment desks, Producers, and Reporters.
• Knowledge of functions of taking in feeds, FTP and Video Server based systems.

The Nice to Haves
• Some knowledge of editing systems, Premiere and Final Cut Pro.
