The Job
The Executive Editor will oversee business coverage across CNN's global digital platforms.
We are looking for an inspiring and innovative leader with expertise in business news across many dimensions, from knowing how to attract a wide range of global audiences with stories about companies and brands that matter to millions, to deep dives into beats and stories that attract specific, loyal audiences about the people and strategies behind business decisions that move markets and drive innovation globally.
The executive editor will oversee a talented digital team of 50+ reporters, writers and editors across key beats inside CNN Business, including Media, Technology, Transportation, Retail, Personal Finance, Markets and the Economy. This leader will direct and support a global team, overseeing staff in New York, San Francisco, London, Hong Kong, Delhi and beyond.
This leader will shape and drive the business agenda for all of CNN Digital, from daily breaking news to longer term editorial priorities and initiatives that meet the moment we are in. Examples of this include: Urgently addressing misinformation and covering the turbulence in the media and technology industries; covering the business and future of space travel; exploring and explaining cryptocurrencies; connecting disruptions in the global supply chain to the impacts it has on billions of people around the world.
The executive editor is someone who is passionate about using audience insights and data to make CNN Business even more distinctive and essential to audiences everywhere. They know how to do great journalism across an array of forms and platforms, including live breaking news that spans all of CNN's digital platforms, newsletters and beats that engage specific audiences, explanatory journalism, data-driven and visual journalism, and compelling essays from thought leaders.
This is a highly collaborative leader who will work closely, daily across the core digital properties of CNN including politics, international, national, features, opinion, visuals, video and audio teams, and also with global newsgathering teams and the network at large. Outside of driving the short and long term editorial agenda for Business, this leader will also have strong partnerships with product, technology, research, finance and operations.
This leader must embody the best of CNN's DNA: Urgency. Essential, original and dynamic reporting. Journalism that holds power to account. Stories that connect dots and explain consequences.

Essentials
• 10+ years editorial experience
• 5+ years leading and managing teams in a deadline-driven newsroom across a matrixed organization preferred
• Comfort shaping an overall vision while executing on daily demands to stay sharp and fast on the news
• Strength in partnering across teams
• Outstanding editorial judgment and deep business knowledge
• Top-notch editing skills, along with a talent for coaching to better story framing and storytelling
• Deft at driving content into new mediums, including newsletters, podcasts and products
• Experience innovating around audience relationships
• Skilled at using data and analytics tools to make decisions
