The Job
The Digital Preservation Editor performs the day-to-day work of video preservation, including digitization of analog videotape, digital video editing, system troubleshooting, and other related aspects of a file-based workflow.
The Daily
• Performs conversion, restoration, and preservation of CNN's archived video in accordance with broadcast standards.
• Reviews existing metadata in conjunction with creation of digital files, relying on editorial judgement to select relevant content and noting discrepancies or potential problems.
• Performs quality control evaluation of digital files to assure the best possible transfer to CNN's digital archive.
• Other related projects as assigned.
The Essentials
• College degree or five years comparable experience in a broadcast environment working with NTSC video in a technical or production capacity
• Experience creating digital video and/or streaming media in a broadcast production environment.
• Experience working with non-linear video systems.
• Familiarity with multiple formats of video (1'', 3/4''-inch, Umatic, Beta, Beta SX, DigiBeta, IMX, XDCAM, etc.)
• Demonstrated understanding of broadcast video and audio parameters, and VTR equipment operation.
• Strong computer skills ~ an understanding of major OS and use of standard office software tools, how to conduct a database search.
• Ability to work independently and follow detailed instructions.
• Attention to detail, reliability and strong communication skills a must.
