Job Description

The Job
Overse e, maintain, and support the technical day to day newsgathering and production facilities for CNN Western Region . Proactively , plan, monitor , address and identify existing problem or new requirements from the responsible areas and make recommendation to the team manager s for further action.

The Daily

Perform 24x7x365 broadcast technical support to include installation, maintenance and troubleshooting/repair of sophisticated streaming, audio and video broadcast production/television equipment. This includes equipment at Production Centers in Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, San Francisco, and outside broadcast locations, as well as ENG crew gear. Coordinate technical installation with vendors and/or production teams. Periodic project-based work.
Operate a satellite truck and/or portable satellite, microwave, streaming and fiber transmission gear to provide multi-path transmissions (IP data/Video/Audio) from outside broadcast locations. This includes equipment transport, set-up, operation and breakdown and may also include truck maintenance. WarnerMedia & contracted SNG trucks / Newsgathering vehicles are multi-path mobile production platforms thus requiring one to be well versed in the operation and maintenance of on-board systems such as cameras, switchers, routers, encoders, power systems, RF and specialized transmission gear (MIMO, COFDM, bonded cellular).

May act in a lead (Engineer-in-Charge) technical role while on remote productions or project assignment. Must demonstrate versatility and willingness to perform varied tasks as required on field assignments which may include operating video/audio equipment. Demonstrated expertise in analyzing and solving complex technical problems and be able work independently and autonomously in a team-based environment.

Provide support for hardware/software problem determination, co-coordinating with suppliers where necessary, ensuring that all problems are avoided or resolved. Also ensure that all changes are planned, documented, implemented and tested, with special emphasis on the reliability, efficiency and security of the production systems

Document quality standards, system anomalies, operational procedures, reference materials (Electrical, Conceptual drawings) and project work material as applicable.

The Must Haves

Typically, 4 or more years of experience in transmissions, radio / television production, including troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of TV, radio equipment, IT systems, satellite, production and studio systems; IP streaming systems, file ingest systems and quality control.

Working knowledge of emerging technologies including data streaming for video transport. RF background

Experienced problem solver who is able to perform well in a fast paced environment

Multi-cameras field-based production experience

Ability to coordinate and communicate well with others to get the work done

Solid work experience and/or relevant university degree/diploma on related discipline

The Nice to Haves

Ability to travel on remote assignments and ability to travel on short notice for extended and potentially intermediate time periods

Willingness to learn Warner Media/CNN proprietary equipment and to facilitate repairs on field equipment while on assignment

Familiar with project management and ITIL process

Familiar with broadcasting systems and technologies
